The Chumu association of organic producers was formed in the year 1996 with the objective of improving organic agricultural production, and so began the development of ecotourism in the region of Salamanca . The group was formed by 15 families of the Yorking indigenous community, which is part of Bri-Bri, the largest indigenous group in Costa Rica , numbering 7,500 people throughout the southern Pacific. Yorking is located in the Indigenous Reserve of Talamanca in the community of corriente Grande, The Chumu Association began by the wishes of the community to improve the living conditions of its members and their families, and at the same time to protect the environment.
Location.
The Yorkin community is located in Corriente Grande in the Watsi District of Talamanca County in the province of Limon . The site corresponds to the rainforest and is included within La Amistad Conservation Area, near the Visa Silvestre andoca Manzanillo Refuge. They traverse Braulio Carrillo National Park , banana plantations in Limon, the borders of the Caribbean Beaches , and Cahuita National Park . The trip is taken from Bri-Bri to the Banbu Community on an unpaved road that winds parallel to the Sixaola River , a natural boundary between Costa Rica and Panama . A trip of two hours floating down the Telire River to the point where it joins the Yorkin River . In this up-river direction, the countryside is beautiful on both sides, the presence of fishing birds (martin pescador, garzas, cormoranes y aguilas pescadores) Upon arriving at he site, one can visit the primary and secondary forests, banana and cocoa plantations, among other things.
